Jimmy Cerreta, an avid outdoorsman and
hunter, started carving duck decoys for his own use and enjoyment
in the 1970's. His hunting friends admired his work and began to ask
Jimmy to carve decoys for their own use, both as gift works of art
and for their hunting use. To this day, all of Jimmy's decoys are
carved as genuine hunting decoys, lead weighted and ready to attract
waterfowl in the marsh.
Soon Jimmy began showing his work at regional and national shows,
and was rewarded with numerous accolades and blue ribbons. Jimmy realized
there was a wider audience for his carvings in those who appreciated
the simple outstanding natural beauty of wildlife carvings, in the
dual tradition of functional hunting equipment and American Folk art.
Jimmy began carving duck calls in the form of duck heads in
the 1980's. Jimmy started with a fundamental goal, produce the most
lifelike call to be used in the field. Jimmy and his hunter friends
have personally tested his series of calls thousands of times while
hunting in order to exactly reproduce sounds which attract waterfowl.
Hunters and their families have additionally cherished the artistry
and beauty of these calls as well.
The Duckhead Duck Call has been featured in numerous Ducks Unlimited
banquets throughout the country, as well as in the Ducks Unlimited
magazine and other national and international outdoor magazines. His
work graces the cover of the Custom Call Makers of America book, which
is the master guide of call makers.
Jimmy is well known around the country for his Duckhead duck
calls, and his work has been the subject of several television features.
Last year, to our excitement, Jimmy was trailed by a television crew
as he demonstrated the in-the-field value of his duck calls, as recorded
from behind his duck-blind
Both his duck decoys and duck calls proved successful, the air
was full of ducks, the water was full of ducks, and the air resounded
with responses from Jimmy's duck calls! A wonderful showcase, shown
nationally! We can't guarantee such success on each and every hunt,
but thank goodness Jimmy's carvings attracted ducks that time!
Our customers tell us that Jimmy's carvings are works of art,
a duck hunter's dream gift and/or a family heirloom to be cherished
for generations.
